Goodbye South America!
When last we left our merry band of world travelers, Sara, Cara and Tracy were having the time of their lives in Quito, Ecuador as the rest of us landed safely in Lima, Peru only to find delays, cancellations, confusion and chaos. It seems that the earthquake in Chile had completely destroyed all of LAN Airlines communications and flight information. Class 39 was now running through the airport from gate to gate desperately seeking any shred of evidence that might one day get us home. We looked more like cuy on an exercise wheel than anything else. These were dark times: Dr. Thomas looked worried, Nick looked like, well Nick, and Jose wasn’t smiling anymore. Things looked bleak indeed. But wait, I see a light!!, Off from the distance a fuzzy faced cherub named Peter Vallis and his traveling Dutchman compatriot (El Senor Van Wingerden) have found an almost empty airplane heading for Los Angeles – Oh the humanity of it all! If we run and if it’s passengers that are stranded in Santiago don’t miraculously appear, the plane is ours! After a few minutes of running frantically, still more confusion and some disbelief for good measure, our merry band made the flight home and arrived safely at 7:45 a.m. in Los Angeles. On behalf of Class 39, I would like all of those who made our international trip the experience of a lifetime. This is Class 39 signing off. Buenos Dias Los Angeles!!! AYEEEEEEE!
